ENDNOTES

British regular regiments had white lace on their cuffs and facings, but differed in the colored stripes on this lace. Loyalist provincial units, in most cases, did not have lace.
The kilt color for the 71st was green and black plaid, however their use was discontinued soon after coming to the colonies in favor of white pants, gators, or overalls. They continued to wear their bonnets.
The helment worn by the British Legion dragoon was unique. It was called the "Tarleton", and may be seen in his portrait. Dragoons wore a short tight jacket of the same color as the conventional infantry jacket worn by the infantry. It is not known definitely if the infantry wore the tricorn or the same helmet as the dragoons.
When the Delaware Regiment went south with DeKalb they wore brown coats faced with red, provided by the French, with cocked hats with gold trim. Kirkwood's company, presumably after Camden, wore hunting shirts.
These uniforms were supplied by the French in 1778 and it is not certain that these uniforms lasted into 1780. It is believed that the officers would have have still have had the uniforms.
The hats worn by Armand's dragoons were similar to those of the British Legion. The infantry of Armand's legion may have worn tricornes.
